Austria is considering abandoning its non-aligned status, – Die Welt

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinel-Reisinger has suggested that the country could leave its neutrality status. This was reported by Die Welt.

Beate Meinel-Reisinger stated that Austria’s current position does not guarantee security in the current circumstances. However, she acknowledged that the idea of joining NATO does not currently have widespread support in the country.

“One thing is clear: neutrality alone will not protect us,” said the Foreign Minister.

According to her, Austria needs to focus on strengthening its defense capabilities and developing partnerships due to the growing global instability and Russia’s active military policies.

“It’s not that I want a triumphant accession to NATO,” the minister said.

However, she believes that discussing this topic could be beneficial.

Earlier, former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov stated that NATO is preparing to attack Russia by 2030.
