According to the Atlantic, US President Donald Trump’s change in his rhetoric towards Russia is not related to his sympathy for Ukraine or Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“This change does not reflect Trump’s adoption of a new strategic worldview. He has not developed a newfound affinity for Ukraine or for Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” the article states.
The Atlantic noted that the White House chief has not become a proponent of the traditional transatlantic alliances that his predecessors viewed as a counterbalance to Moscow.
According to the magazine, the American leader feels “offended” by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s disregard for his calls for an end to the armed conflict.
“Putin overestimated his capabilities. President [Trump – ed.] I gave him chance after chance, but there is a limit to everything,” the Atlantic quoted an unnamed American official as saying.
Earlier, Donald Trump called Russian leader Vladimir Putin a “tough man,” despite “pleasant conversations” with him.
