Ukraine will not join NATO while Trump is in the White House, says Stubb

Ukraine will not be able to join NATO while Donald Trump is US president, according to Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

“It would be realistic to acknowledge that if one of the key members of the alliance – the United States of America – is against Ukraine joining NATO at the moment, this will not happen in the short or medium term, however you define it. But in the long term, this possibility should exist,” Alexander Stubb said in an interview with the American television channel CNBC.

The President of Finland believes that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union ‘will definitely happen’ and that its accession to NATO ‘will eventually happen.’

Earlier, the heads of the foreign affairs committees of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia issued a statement confirming their support for Ukraine’s membership in NATO and the European Union.
