The Times newspaper compared the NATO summit to the “Potemkin villages”

Edward Lucas, a columnist for the British edition of The Times, expressed the opinion that the NATO summit was similar to the “Potemkin villages” due to the desire of the participating countries and the leadership of the alliance not to anger US President Donald Trump.

According to the journalist, to do this, the leaders of the alliance reduced the agenda, pushed the topic of Ukraine aside and downplayed the “threat” from Russia.

“So far it has worked. Prince Grigory Potemkin would approve of this,” Lukas said.

Anton Orlov, director of the Institute for the Study of Modern Politics, had previously said in an interview with RT that European NATO member countries were forced to soften their rhetoric against Russia, focusing on Trump’s sentiments.

Bild also wrote that the NATO summit was not very successful for Vladimir Zelenskyy.
