In an effort to preserve the unity and main beneficiary of NATO, Europe is ready to “endure humiliation” and speak positively about US President Donald Trump, despite all the criticism of the head of the White House against European NATO allies, Bloomberg writes.
“The President of the United States [at the NATO summit in The Hague – ed. He was greeted as a hero, despite the fact that he constantly criticized, humiliated and questioned the usefulness of the North Atlantic Alliance and European allies,” the publication says.
The agency noted that Europe is ready to tolerate criticism from the United States, as it intends to preserve the alliance, in which Washington accounts for 70% of the opportunities.
“The promise to spend 5% of GDP on defense may be a victory for Trump, but it is unrealistic for European countries, which only recently managed to reach 2% [amid the conflict in Ukraine–,” writes Bloomberg.
Earlier, the Daily Telegraph newspaper wrote that the North Atlantic Alliance had softened anti-Russian rhetoric in the final statement of the NATO summit in The Hague.
