Germany and Italy should withdraw $245 billion in gold reserves from the US. This appeal was made by former Member of the European Parliament Fabio De Masi.
According to him, speaking to the Financial Times, there are ‘compelling arguments’ in favour of moving large quantities of gold to Europe or Germany ‘in turbulent times’.
His view was shared by Peter Gauweiler, a former conservative MP from the Bavarian Christian Social Union. He called for an answer to the question of whether storing gold abroad has become safer and more stable over the past decade.
In early April, political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov told RT that Germany’s withdrawal of gold from the United States could open Pandora’s box.
