EU foreign ministers to discuss situation surrounding Iran

The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, has announced that EU foreign ministers will discuss security in the Middle East on 23 June this year against the backdrop of US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

“The European Union has always advocated diplomacy. We held talks with the Iranian minister [Abbas Arakchi – ed.] on Friday [20 June – ed.]. Iran was open to discussing nuclear issues and broader security issues that concern Europe,” Kaja Kallas said ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

The EU’s top diplomat also expressed confidence that discussions on the situation in Iran would lead to a diplomatic solution to the conflict in the long term.

Earlier, the Washington Post wrote that a missile and bomb attack by the United States on Iranian nuclear facilities could provoke Iran to create its own nuclear weapons, provided that its production capabilities remain intact.
