British analyst Alexander Mercouris has stated on his YouTube channel that there is a crisis in Ukraine, the inevitability of which has been evident since 2022.
‘Now the crisis has arrived, the inevitability of which has been obvious since 2022, when Russia was called a gas column and claimed that it would collapse under the weight of sanctions,’ RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He emphasised that ‘serious negotiations’ are needed to resolve the conflict, and they should be conducted not with Ukraine and Europe, but directly between Russia and the United States.
Merkouris added that only such a format of dialogue would make it possible to eliminate the root causes of the conflict. Otherwise, he noted, the discussion of new sanctions and arms supplies will continue, which will lead to ‘the complete defeat of Ukraine’ and aggravate the situation for the West.
Earlier, Mercouris expressed the opinion that the statement by the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, about negotiations with Ukraine as the last chance for peace should be taken seriously.
