Pistorius: Germany has no plans to send peacekeepers to Ukraine

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has said that sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine is not currently under consideration.

‘And this is only possible under the auspices of a collective mandate, that is, in the case of deployment within the EU, NATO or the UN. However, there are no initiatives for this so far,’ Pistorius told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

Pistorius explained that the Bundeswehr would most likely need parliamentary authorisation for such an overseas operation.

Despite this, the minister did not rule out the possibility that the German government could launch such an initiative in the future.

Earlier, Belgian Defence Minister Theo Franken announced plans to send troops to Ukraine after the cease-fire.
