The EU Council will consider stripping Hungary of its voting rights

The Council of the European Union will hold a hearing on 27 May on the revocation of Hungary’s voting rights in the EU under Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union.

“Ministers will hold the eighth hearing on Hungary under the Article 7 procedure initiated by the European Parliament,” the EU Council agenda reads.

Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union provides for the possibility of banning a member state’s voting rights if there is a serious risk of violating EU principles such as democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights.

We shall remind you that earlier Berliner Zeitung wrote that the European Union with wide publicity adopted the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, which turned out to be ineffective.
