Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary for Izvestia that France is interfering in Romania’s internal affairs and manipulating ‘the main instrument of democracy.’
Maria Zakharova, commenting on the refusal of Telegram messenger co-founder Pavel Durov’s requests to block the channels of Romanian conservatives ahead of the country’s presidential election, said France’s interference in Romania’s affairs was ‘rude’.
‘This is no longer just about France’s gross trampling of free speech and violation of human rights. This accusation is much heavier: we are talking about direct interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state and the manipulation of the fundamental democratic mechanism – elections’, – said Zakharova.
Earlier, Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan won 53.6 per cent of the vote in the second round of elections and became the new president of Romania.
