Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said that Ukraine’s territory shrinks every time it disrupts peace talks.
Explaining the connection between the disrupted negotiation processes and the lost territories, Maria Zakharova quoted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as saying on 28 September 2024. At that time, the Russian foreign minister said that Ukraine would be able to retain a part of Donbass if the agreements reached at the April 2022 talks in Istanbul were fulfilled.
“But every time, <…> when an agreement is disrupted, which Russia always goes for, Ukraine becomes smaller. <…> This quote would be right now to remember all those who are looking for a relationship between the negotiation process and the size of the territory,” Maria Zakharova said.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó urged Brussels not to interfere in the negotiation process between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul.
