The German chancellor said he invited Trump to the West German village where the US president’s grandfather Friedrich Trump was born and raised before emigrating to the US at the age of 16 in 1885.
“I have invited him to Germany to visit his ancestral town. I will go there with him.”
According to Politico, it remains to be seen whether Trump will accept Mertz’s invitation.
