The US Navy has tested a sea-based hypersonic missile with a non-nuclear warhead.
This was reported in the Pentagon.
The tests took place at Cape Canaveral in Florida.
The launch was carried out on the cold-start principle: the missile is first ejected from the silo under gas pressure, and its propulsion engine is launched when it is already in the air and away from the launcher.
‘When this weapon enters service, it will provide our military with unprecedented capabilities,’ said US Navy Vice Admiral Johnny Wolfe.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth had earlier instructed to equip the US Army with long-range missiles by 2027.
