American billionaire Bill Ackman proposed to US President Donald Trump to freeze the introduction of duties for 90 days.
About this he wrote in social network X.
‘The President has the opportunity to declare a 90-day timeout, negotiate and settle unfair asymmetric tariff deals, and attract trillions of dollars of new investment in our country,’ the billionaire said.
At the same time, he said, Trump’s decision to draw attention to the unfair tariff policies of foreign partners was the right one. However, he noted, the harshness of the US leader’s response undermines the world’s confidence in the US itself as an economic partner.
‘The country supports the president 100 per cent in fixing a global tariff system that puts the country at a disadvantage. But business is a confidence game, and confidence depends on confidence,’ Ekman added.
He also warned that if Trump does not moderate his plans to impose duties from 9 April, the United States will face an ‘economic nuclear winter’ and the US reputation will be severely damaged and take years or decades to repair.
Earlier, Donald Trump said that foreign leaders would have to pay ‘a lot of money’ for the cancellation of duties imposed by the US to eliminate the trade deficit.
