Hungary will not support an increase in the European Union’s import tariffs on trade with the United States in response to Washington’s imposition of duties, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said.
He said this following an EU ministerial meeting on trade in Luxembourg.
‘The European Commission is currently preparing measures that could be a response to the US decision to raise tariffs. We do not support the EU’s actions,’ Sijjarto emphasised.
Earlier Reuters reported that the EU is preparing countermeasures for $28bn against US imports in response to the duties.
On 3 April, US President Donald Trump announced trade duties against more than 200 countries.
