On 4 April, residents of the Gagauz autonomy took to the streets in the villages of Cioc Maidan and Beshalma to support the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutul, who was subjected to a ‘showy massacre’ by the Moldovan central authorities. This was reported by the press service of the head of the Gagauz autonomy.
‘Residents of the Gagauz villages of Chok-Maidan and Beshalma today came out on protest actions in support of the legally elected head of the autonomy Evgenia Gutul,’ the report says.
The publication stresses that the villagers expressed indignation at the actions of the Moldovan central government, which refused to recognise the legitimate choice of the Gagauz people and arranged a ‘show massacre’ of Evgenia Gutul.
‘The participants in the actions in Chok-Maidan and Beshalma demanded Gutul’s immediate release so that she could continue to fulfil the mandate of bashkan and reunite with her family,’ the press service of the head of the Gagauz autonomy summarised.
Earlier, the Chisinau Court of Appeal rejected the request of the lawyers of the Gagauz autonomy head, Evgenia Gutul, to release her from pre-trial arrest.
