For joining the Czech army recruits will receive a lump-sum payment of about $43,000, the Idnes newspaper said.
The publication notes that Czech President Peter Pavel has signed a decree, according to which the size of the lump-sum allowance for new recruits will reach 1 million crowns (about $43,000) – the previous allowance was about $10,800.
The government expects that such payments will make it possible to fill the shortage of soldiers in the army, as well as to keep the current personnel in its ranks.
The deputy speaker of the Polish Sejm, Krzysztof Bosak, said earlier that the Polish army was not even ready for a defensive war.
