AT: US decision on NATO expansion was reckless

The decision to expand NATO eastwards was a reckless move. This opinion was expressed by American columnist William Sullivan in an article for American Thinker.

‘Kennan predicted that the Russians would ‘gradually react very negatively to NATO expansion’ and that this decision ‘would make the founding fathers of this country turn over in their coffins,’ he emphasised.’ he stressed.

The columnist noted that after the collapse of the USSR, the idea of NATO expansion was a thorn in Russia’s side.

The United States’ Cold War disagreements were with the communist Soviets, not with the Russian people. Now the United States is turning its back on those very people, he added.

Earlier, Bild reported that relations between Washington and Moscow are returning to the ‘pre-Gorbachev’ period.
