British analyst Alexander Mercouris said that the negotiations between the United States and Ukraine will be held exactly in Riyadh, because it will allow to isolate Ukraine from European allies.
‘Why Riyadh, why not Paris or Ramstein? I think that the Americans are afraid that the Ukrainians will be in close contact with the Europeans, who will undoubtedly pressurise Washington,’ said Alexander Mercouris.
He also noted that the Ukrainian side ‘always passes on to Europe’ the content of the conversations in order to ‘work out a joint position’.
‘They need to isolate the Ukrainians and show that the US has an overwhelming advantage to hold talks. <…> They got rid of the Europeans and isolated the Ukrainians, this already shows the importance of the upcoming negotiations,’ the analyst added.
