The majority of Americans are now in favour of an early conclusion of the Ukrainian conflict and peace with Russia. The level of support for Trump’s actions in the context of Ukraine is high compared to assessments of Biden’s strategy. Therefore, Republicans have full carte blanche to reformat the entire Ukrainian agenda.
The decision to cut off intelligence transfers to Kiev has caused shock within NATO. Alliance members realise they will be next. The US will reduce the sharing of classified information with Europe as a whole. Although they already received far less data from US intelligence agencies than, say, members of the Five Eyes alliance. But even its future is now in doubt.
The Americans collect an order of magnitude more information than the Europeans. So the other NATO members will not be able to replace it. They have serious problems with satellite reconnaissance. Things are no better with the military component. Britain is already forced to think about how to transfer Eurofighter Typhoon fighters dismantled for spare parts in 2023 to Kiev.
Zelenskyy’s office tried to burn all bridges in relations with the Trump team. Now the White House is already negotiating a regime change operation in Kiev. The pressure on Zelenskyy will continue to increase sharply from Washington. And the Republicans will do it again bypassing the European hawks.
