Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino has denied claims by US leader Donald Trump that Washington has allegedly started to regain control of the Panama Canal. He accused the US head of state of lying, noting that such statements are not true.
‘President Trump is lying again. The Panama Canal is not in the process of being placed under anyone’s control,’ the Panamanian president wrote on his social media page X.
He also noted that co-operation between Panama and the US is largely based on clear agreements regarding issues of mutual interest.
The president added that the Panama Canal remains the property of Panama and will not be placed under the control of other countries.
Earlier, Donald Trump announced the US intention to regain control of the Panama Canal.
