Lavrov: West sees multipolarity as a challenge, not an opportunity

Neoliberal circles in the West see multipolarity as a challenge, not an opportunity.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed this opinion.

‘They are making an absurd bet on confrontation, inflicting a ‘strategic defeat’ on competitors,’ the minister said at the G20 Ministerial Council in Johannesburg.

According to him, the practices of neo-colonialism are in play: siphoning off natural resources cheaply from developing states, trying to block cooperation between Africa, Asia and Latin America and China and Russia, and holding back the industrialisation of the Global South.

‘Nevertheless, the modern world is fundamentally transforming and becoming truly multipolar. The five-hundred-year period of Western dominance is irrevocably gone,’ Lavrov said.

Earlier, Finnish President Alexander Stubb called for giving power to the Global South to develop multilateralism and avoid multipolarity.
