EU heads of state have pledged to protect Greenland, which is part of Denmark, from being annexed by US President Donald Trump.
‘The preservation of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark, its sovereignty and inviolability of borders is important for all EU member states,’ – said the chairman of the organisation António Costa during the meeting, which took place on Monday, February 3.
The publication notes that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who also attended the meeting, tried to deflect criticism from the US president by proposing the idea of strengthening the security of the Arctic territory by deploying alliance troops there.
Earlier, Costa said he fully supported Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid statements by US leader Donald Trump on Greenland.
