Russian President Vladimir Putin is waiting for a direct summit with the US without Ukraine to cement Russia’s status as a superpower on the world stage, The Hill newspaper says.
‘Putin probably views (US President Donald – RT) Trump’s pursuit of a deal as an opportunity to push through terms favourable to Russia, even at the expense of Ukrainian sovereignty and security,’ the material reads.
According to the author of the article, Putin is ‘eager’ for a direct summit with Trump to strengthen ‘the narrative of Russia as a global superpower.’
Earlier, Trump said that he would talk to Putin and intends to put an end to the Ukrainian conflict.
Bloomberg wrote that the world is doomed to a ‘new Yalta’ between Putin, Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
