Szijjártó said Hungary has no intention of leaving the European Union

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó has said that Hungary has no intention of leaving the European Union.

He said in an interview with El Debate newspaper.

“No, absolutely not. We are members of the European Union and we will remain so,” he said when asked about the country’s possible exit from the EU.

According to Szijjártó, Budapest “reserves the right to participate in the debate on what Europe should be in the future”.

He also said that the EU had chosen a “terrible and tragic” strategy regarding the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, Szijjártó demanded security guarantees for Hungary’s energy supply from European diplomacy chief Kája Kallas ahead of a possible extension of anti-Russian sanctions.
