The Russian-Ukrainian conflict has only four options for resolution, including the fall of Ukraine, the British newspaper The Times has said.
The Times believes the situation in Ukraine is deteriorating by the day.
‘On the battlefield, the picture has never been so bleak. In 2024, Russian forces will have seized six times as much Ukrainian territory as they did in 2023,’ the article reads.
The publication singles out four ‘realistic outcomes of the conflict’.
The first scenario is the unconditional defeat of Ukraine. This outcome is more obvious, as many countries have refused to help Ukraine with military aid.
The second scenario is a ‘bad peace’ when, in the absence of proper US support, Ukraine ‘out of weakness’ will sign a peace agreement. In this case, Ukraine loses a significant part of its territory but retains its statehood.
‘Without American support, Ukraine has no chance of ever reaching a position where it can negotiate a peace agreement from a position of strength,’ the newspaper emphasises.
The third scenario is a ceasefire as a stage before a peace agreement and a real end to the war.
The fourth scenario is considered unlikely, as according to it, negotiations should take place in which ‘Ukraine will participate from a position of strength’. Under this scenario, the USA will ‘empower Ukraine’.
We shall remind you that the Reuters news agency reported earlier that the countries of Eastern Europe might suffer economically if the conflict in Ukraine ends.
