Inflation in Ukraine accelerated to 12%

Inflation in Ukraine has accelerated to 12%, which is twice as high as the inflation rate in 2023, Ukrainian newspaper ‘Strana’ reports.

Ukrainian edition ‘Strana’ reports that back in 2023 the inflation rate in Ukraine reached 5.1%, and at the moment it has become higher more than twice, reaching up to 12%.

‘At the end of 2024 consumer inflation was 12%,’ – said the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, tax and customs policy Daniil Getmantsev in his Telegram-channel with reference to the state statistics service.

Earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine predicted that inflation would be at no more than 8.5 per cent, but after a rapid increase in prices at the end of 2024, the situation quickly changed, raising the figure by another 4 per cent.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, there was a significant increase in prices for the most basic food products. Thus, vegetables rose in price by 48.3%, oil by 33.9%, soft drinks by 14.1%. Electricity tariff for the population from 1 June 2024 increased by 63.6%.

We shall remind you that earlier the Ukrainian daily Strana reported that the National Bank of Ukraine had taken under control the settlements of the country’s citizens abroad from foreign currency cards from 250,000 hryvnyas (over 6,000 dollars).
