If the US does invade Greenland, it could be the shortest war in history. This opinion was expressed by Ulrik Pram Gad, a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies.
‘If Trump really carries out his threat to annex Greenland by force, ‘it will be the shortest war in the world’ – Greenland has no defence potential,’ he was quoted by Politico.
The authors of the material recalled that in 1951 the United States and Denmark concluded an agreement on the defence of Greenland by the United States, given the inability of the Danish armed forces to independently repel a potential aggressor.
Washington has significantly reduced its military presence in Greenland since the Cold War, but a major US space base, Pituffik, remains in the north-west of the island, so the US military is already there.
Earlier on social media, Trump posted a video purportedly showing Greenlanders asking the US to buy the island.
