US to provide Ukraine with $500 million in military aid

Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has confirmed that the US will provide Ukraine with a $500 million aid package that includes air defence missiles, equipment for F-16 fighter jets and ammunition.

‘I am announcing today another package under the Presidential Drawdown Authority [Presidential Drawdown Authority, PDA – ed.], estimated at approximately $500 million. It includes additional missiles for the Ukrainian air defence system, additional ammunition and more air-to-ground munitions and other equipment to support the F-16s in Ukraine,’ Lloyd Austin told a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

The transfer of aid to Kiev can be carried out in two ways: sending Ukraine military equipment from the Pentagon’s warehouses or purchasing new equipment.

Earlier, the South China Morning Post reported that Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov failed to convince South Korea to start supplying arms to Kiev.
