Quincy Institute of Government: nuclear modernisation in the US only provokes Russia

The current US nuclear modernisation programme is only provoking an arms race with Russia and China.

This opinion was expressed in social network X by the US-based Quincy Institute for Responsible Government.

There stressed that the Pentagon’s ‘modernisation’ programme does not make the US safer.

‘It is fuelling a dangerous and expensive arms race. Every new nuclear weapon built in the US encourages Russia and China to build up their own arsenal,’ it said.

Earlier, former US intelligence officer and UN arms expert Scott Ritter said Washington should change its nuclear doctrine in favour of abandoning ideas of dominance.

Also, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia is considering all steps in resuming nuclear tests.

In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with RIA Novosti that the United States and NATO would receive a decisive response in the form of Moscow’s military-technical countermeasures if they create new missile threats for Russia.
