Xi Jinping will not attend Trump’s inauguration – CBS

President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping will not come to Washington as a guest at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, CBS TV channel reported, citing sources.

CBS earlier reported that Donald Trump sent an invitation to the Chinese President to his inauguration, which is to be held on 20 January 2025. Trump’s spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt confirmed this information.

‘The Chinese ambassador to the United States and his wife are expected to attend the event on 20 January, which is standard practice,’ the network said in its publication.

According to CBS sources, the ambassador may be joined by other officials from Beijing, but not Xi Jinping himself.

Trump’s invitation, delivered outside official diplomatic channels, took Beijing by surprise, the TV station said. Chinese officials, accustomed to strict protocol and the complex power dynamics in US-China relations, were left wondering about the US president-elect’s intentions.

Ambassadors and other high-ranking diplomats are usually invited to U.S. presidential inaugurations. According to the State Department, since 1874, no foreign leader has not attended the inauguration ceremony of the head of state of the United States.

We will remind, earlier Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the countries that will promote Taiwan’s independence from the PRC will inevitably bring serious consequences and come to a bitter result.
