WSJ: Trump may nominate Florida Governor Desantis to head the Pentagon

US President-elect Donald Trump is considering Florida Governor Ron Desantis as a possible replacement for Pete Hegseth, previously nominated to head the Pentagon.

‘Donald Trump is considering Florida Governor Ron Desantis as a possible replacement for Pete Hegseth, whom he picked to head the Pentagon,’ The Wall Street Journal writes.

At the same time, it is not excluded that the head of the White House may choose someone else, and the next 48 hours, according to the publication, will be crucial.

According to the newspaper, earlier Hegseth’s former colleague accused him of rape after drinking alcoholic beverages in a bar. Hegseth’s lawyers, meanwhile, said their client was innocent and the contact was consensual.

It was later reported that Hegseth paid a former colleague a hush money to keep the scandal quiet and avoid losing his job at Fox News Channel.

Reports that Trump proposed to nominate a Fox News TV host to head the Pentagon appeared on 13 November.

Earlier, Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination from consideration for US Attorney General and Justice Secretary. The Washington Post newspaper wrote that the ethics committee of the US House of Representatives received data on Getz’s payment for intimate services during his work as a congressman.
