The Martial Law Command in South Korea said that the imposition of martial law in the country was due to the need to combat anti-state forces. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency.
‘The following regulations are imposed throughout the Republic of Korea from 11 p.m. on 3 December 2024 to protect liberal democracy from the threat of regime change in the Republic of Korea by anti-state forces conducting secret agitation inside the free Republic of Korea,’ the Martial Law Command said in Decree No. 1.
The document also says the military will try to minimise inconvenience to ordinary citizens, ‘except for forces (planning) regime change’.
We shall remind you that earlier the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post newspaper wrote that Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, who was earlier sent to Seoul by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, failed to convince South Korea to start supplying arms to Kiev with his statements about the alleged presence of the DPRK military in the SMO zone.
