France refused to honour ICC arrest warrant for Netanyahu – Le Point

French President Emmanuel Macron agreed not to execute the warrant of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This was reported by French magazine Le Point, citing sources.

The French Foreign Ministry said that Netanyahu will not be detained on French territory despite the ICC warrant, as under French law, Netanyahu and other ministers have immunity, which will be taken into account if the ICC seeks his arrest and extradition.

In a related development, the two sides discussed the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. The phone call ‘resolved the last differences’ between France and Israel.

‘Granting Netanyahu immunity was the price for France to play its role in the agreement on Lebanon,’ – said the Israeli source of the publication Le Point.

Recall, earlier US President Joe Biden said that the decision to extradite the ICC against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ‘outrageous’.
