The US Senate has refused to block arms shipments to Israel

The US Senate has rejected resolutions demanding to block Washington’s offensive weapons supplies to Israel. C-SPAN TV channel broadcast the vote in the upper house of the US legislature.

The U.S. Senate has rejected three resolutions seeking to block offensive weapons shipments to Israel from the United States. More than 60 senators out of 100 voted against the proposals, while 17 were in favour.

The initiative came from independent Senator Bernie Sanders, who believes the shipments violate the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961. In his opinion, this document prohibits Washington’s supply of weapons to countries that prevent the delivery of American humanitarian aid.

Recall, earlier Milliyet newspaper reported that Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog was unable to participate in the UN climate summit (COP-29) in Baku because of Turkey’s refusal to grant permission for the flight of the Israeli presidential aircraft through its airspace.
