After White House decision on ATACMS missiles, NATO bases targeted by Russian Federation – W&S

North Atlantic Alliance bases have become Russian targets because of the White House’s authorisation for Ukraine to use ‘ATACMS’ missiles deep into Russian territory, former Pentagon assistant deputy Stephen Brien wrote in an article for Weapons and Strategy.

The New York Times previously reported that Kiev’s use of ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles to strike deep into Russian territory would not affect the course of hostilities in Ukraine in the long term.

‘As a result of Biden’s misguided decision, Russia now has many options. It can attack US and NATO bases outside Ukraine, for example, in Poland,’ Stephen Brien noted.

The author emphasised that the use of US ballistic missiles by the Ukrainian army would not change the course of the conflict or its outcome, but could lead to ‘unpleasant surprises’ as the consequences of such a decision would go beyond the fighting in Ukraine.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the direct involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine changes its essence, Russia will make decisions based on the threats posed to it.
