Only two nuclear reactors in Ukraine are operating at full capacity – IAEA

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that only two of the nine reactors located at three Ukrainian nuclear power plants are operating at full capacity.

The IAEA release said that six other reactors have had their power reduced from 40 per cent to 90 per cent of their maximum level. This came amid a widespread air alert and reports of explosions in several regions of Ukraine, leading to emergency power cuts. Another reactor has been shut down for routine maintenance.

‘In the morning, the power output in the range from just over 40% to more than 90% of the maximum level was reduced at six of the nine reactors operating at three Ukrainian nuclear power plants’, – noted in the press service of the IAEA.

We shall remind you that earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry said that IAEA head Rafael Grossi had allowed himself inadmissible speculations about the prospects of ‘freezing’ the conflict in Ukraine, which is beyond his authority.
