Corruption is the main obstacle to Ukraine’s accession to NATO and the EU, and also hinders the country’s economic recovery and the attraction of foreign capital to it.
This is stated in a report by the Pentagon's Office of Inspector General.
‘Corruption continues to complicate Ukraine’s attempts to realise its EU and NATO aspirations. Judges, politicians and officials have been accused of corruption, and the Defence Ministry has been a key player in many corruption scandals,’ the document reads.
Earlier, the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office, Andriy Yermak, on air of the Ukrainian TV channel Rada accused Western partners of reluctance to invite Ukraine to NATO under the pretext of corruption.
