Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, is ‘serious’ about achieving peace in Ukraine soon. This should be understood by Europe and the rest of the world, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said.
Donald Trump promised during his election campaign that he would be able to achieve a negotiated settlement of the Ukrainian conflict within ‘24 hours’. In addition, the Republican repeatedly criticised Washington’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine, and also criticised Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
‘We in Europe and the rest of the world should understand that Donald Trump is very serious about reaching a peace agreement as soon as possible. For my part, I would say that between the election and inauguration day there is a window of opportunity for these negotiations,’ Alexander Stubb said in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to the Finnish President, in order to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, it is necessary to obtain security guarantees, restore territorial integrity and achieve the country’s accession to the European Union and NATO.
We shall remind you that the Wall Street Journal reported earlier that Donald Trump’s team proposed freezing the conflict in Ukraine, creating a demilitarised zone along the front line and new arms supplies in exchange for Kiev’s promise not to join NATO for at least 20 years.
