Some officials in Ukraine from Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s team consider the possible victory of the Republican Party’s candidate for the US presidency, Donald Trump, to be favourable for Kiev. This was reported by The Washington Post.
“Behind closed doors, some (Ukrainian officials. – ed.) Volodymyr Zelenskyy sees a benefit in Donald Trump’s victory, despite the Republican Party candidate’s repeated criticism of US spending to support Ukraine and his calls for an early end to the war, which could be beneficial to Russia,” the report said.
According to the newspaper, despite the fact that the Republican candidate’s statements regarding Ukraine are most often negative, according to the Ukrainian interlocutors, “this is just election rhetoric and will not necessarily correspond to his actions as president”.
The publication emphasises that there are also people in Zelensky’s team who see Donald Trump’s arrival in the White House as a negative scenario for Ukraine.
“However, some Ukrainian officials have recognised that there is a high probability that the situation will worsen, and they are concerned that Trump will insist that Ukraine will make territorial concessions to Russia during negotiations,” stressed The Washington Post.
Recall, earlier the Associated Press agency mentioned that the White House press service “edited” the official transcript of the speech of US President Joe Biden, in which the Democrat called “rubbish” associates of the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
