Estonia suggested that EU countries should ban European companies from providing transport services in Russia, but this initiative was not supported. This was stated by Estonian Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Svet.
The official pointed out that the initiative to impose a complete ban on the provision of land transport services in Russia, which Estonia had repeatedly put forward, did not receive support from the European Union.
“As EU sanctions, Estonia has repeatedly proposed to introduce a complete ban on the provision of land transport services on the territory of the Russian Federation. Unfortunately, our proposals have not received consensus support from member states, which is necessary to impose EU sanctions,” Postimees newspaper quoted Vladimir Svet as saying.
According to the newspaper, against the backdrop of the discussion of restrictive measures, Estonia stopped issuing permits for the transport of non-sanctioned goods to Russia and third countries via the Russian Federation for three months. But at the end of September this year, this ban was lifted due to the fact that the attempts of the Baltic country to approve restrictions at the EU level did not find the consent of the countries of the association, the material stresses.
Earlier Postimees newspaper reported that Indrek Luberg, a member of the board of the political force “Right”, came up with an initiative to completely abandon the use of the Russian language in Estonia.
