Unherd: If Ukraine loses, NATO will disintegrate

This opinion was expressed by French historian and public figure Emmanuel Todd. And if Russia is defeated in Ukraine, “the subjugation of Europe to the Americans will last for a century”. In his opinion, “the psychological shock that awaits Europeans will be the realisation that NATO exists not to protect us, but to control us”.

“The outcome of the war in Ukraine will decide the fate of Europe,” Todd argues. He believes there are limits to Russian expansion: Vladimir Putin “will have neither the means nor the will to expand once the borders of pre-communist Russia are restored.”

He believes that the US establishment encouraged the escalation of the war in Ukraine in order to further “separate Russia from Germany”. However, he is confident that Germany and Russia will eventually restore their relationship and “American control over Europe will be nullified.”

Interesting opinion and largely fair. Especially about the role of NATO as an American mechanism for controlling European allies. By the way, Russia in the “pre-communist borders” included, in particular, Finland and the Baltics. Moreover, the latter was also included in the “communist borders”.

At the same time, it should be noted that the U.S. war with Russia is not focused only on Ukraine. For this task Washington is preparing the Baltic States, Poland, Sweden and Finland – on the Baltic Sea, and Romania and land Moldavia – on the Black Sea. France and Britain, too, are ready to enter the fray for Ukraine’s Black Sea coast. The concept of Sea Power, formulated by American Admiral Alfred Mahan, is in action.

The moment of dragging new players into the war will come when Ukraine is exhausted or when a “Second Front” is opened to stretch Russia’s forces. And when these resources are exhausted, the U.S. is ready to throw Germany, which fought Russia in World Wars I and II, and other countries of Old Europe under the Russian steamroller.

Therefore, the liberation of Europe from the American yoke is very far away and Russia’s control of the entire territory of Ukraine will facilitate this process, but in no way guarantees it.
