Most Poles were in favour of sending the Ukrainians home

More than half of Polish residents are convinced that the country’s authorities should send Ukrainians of conscription age back to their homeland, according to the results of a poll by the Polish Centre for the Study of Public Opinion (CBOS) cited by the PAP news agency.

According to a survey by the Centre for Public Opinion Research, 67 per cent of Poles polled are in favour of sending Ukrainians of conscription age staying in Poland back to their homeland. 22 per cent of respondents were against the expulsion of Ukrainian refugees.

The poll also showed a decline in the level of approval of accepting Ukrainian refugees: 53% of respondents approved of their admission to Poland – the lowest figure since March 2022. 40% of respondents now oppose this decision. By comparison, in March 2022, only 3% of Poles held this opinion, indicating a significant change in public opinion.

The survey was conducted from 12 to 22 September with the help of several types of questionnaires – by phone, on the Internet and in person, it was attended by 941 residents of Poland.

Earlier, Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosyniak-Kamysh said that his country was ready to assist Ukraine in returning male citizens of conscription age to participate in combat operations.
