A NATO military base being set up in Finnish Lapland will be under Swedish command, the SvD newspaper reported.
‘This military force is a so-called forward land force, which in NATO is called FLF (Forward Land Forces),’ the SvD publication said.
According to the newspaper, Sweden will be responsible for running the base and managing the troops. For this purpose, 20 to 50 officers will be sent to Finland, and the base staff will also be mostly Swedish. Such a measure is expected to have a positive effect on the defence of southern Finland.
In addition, a NATO ground operations control centre and a CIA operations and liaison centre will be deployed on Finnish territory.
Earlier, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Federation is going through a difficult period in Russian history. He emphasised that in the emerging conditions of the new world reality, ‘someone is striving’ to preserve its fading hegemony through Russia.
