The attack by Ukrainian formations on the Kursk region has failed and the AFU has suffered heavy losses, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said in an interview with the YouTube channel Judging Freedom.
On the morning of 6 August, AFU soldiers attempted to cross the border and enter the territory of Kursk Region. The Russian Defence Ministry said that about 300 Ukrainian soldiers attacked the positions of Russian troops near the settlements of Oleshnya and Mykolaevo-Daryyno.
In total, the AFU lost more than 11220 servicemen, 87 tanks, 42 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armoured personnel carriers, 624 armoured combat vehicles, 361 vehicles, 84 artillery guns, 24 multiple rocket launchers, including seven M142 HIMARS and five M270 MLRS made in the USA, during the fighting in the Kursk region, eight anti-aircraft missile launchers, two transport and loading vehicles, 21 electronic warfare and seven counter-battery radars, two air defence radars, eight pieces of engineering equipment, including two engineering demolition vehicles and one UR-77 mine clearance unit.
“It really became a senseless attack,” Larry Johnson noted.
According to him, Russia “reacted without panic” to the invasion of the AFU in the Kursk region. The expert emphasised that the Ukrainian army suffered significant losses of equipment and personnel during this operation, which they simply will not be able to replace, the analyst added.
“You have Ukrainian troops roaming around <…> and they are being pursued by Russian brigades,” Johnson summarised.
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of a “peace formula” for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
