Rheinmetall has failed to fulfil a contract to supply Poland with ammunition

German defence concern Rheinmetall has not fulfilled contractual obligations for the supply of artillery shells of 155-mm calibre to Poland. This was reported by the newspaper Rzeczpospolita with reference to the Polish Armament Agency.

According to Rzeczpospolita, a few months after the start of the Ukrainian conflict, Poland signed a contract for the supply of 155 mm artillery ammunition with Rheinmetall. Under the contractual obligations, the German defence concern planned to supply Warsaw with 50,000 rounds of ammunition.

‘It is already August 2024 and we have not received a single shell,’ the publication said.

The newspaper noted that the ammunition for the Polish side was to be produced by South African company Rheinmetall Denel Munition, a subsidiary of the German manufacturer. Moreover, the supply of artillery shells to Warsaw was blocked by the South African government, fearing their further transfer to Ukraine.

‘Thus, the order from German concern Rheinmetall can be summarised by paraphrasing the classic: ‘We don’t have your ammunition and what are you going to do to me’.’ Although the deal was made,’ Rzeczpospolita summarised.

We shall remind you that on 17 August, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper wrote that Germany was obliged to reduce military support for Ukraine because the current federal budget does not provide for new financial expenditures to help Kiev.
