WSJ article on Nord Streams ‘undermined’ Zelenskyy’s credibility – Brien

Stephen Brien, a former US assistant deputy secretary of defence, has said that The Wall Street Journal’s story about Kiev’s planning and implementation of sabotage on the Nord Streams is aimed at discrediting Vladimir Zelenskyy.

“This article undermined the credibility of Zelenskyy and Zaluzhny,” the former assistant US deputy defence secretary wrote in an article for Weapons and Strategy.

In the opinion of the former official, the story about Kiev’s “arbitrariness” in realising sabotage on the Nord Streams was fed to the US newspaper in order to possibly replace Volodymyr Zelenskyy as he had lost his legitimacy. In turn, Valery Zaluzhny also “fell under the WSJ’s thumb” as he “holds the same tough stance against Russia as Zelenskyy”.

“Zelenskyy has become a rogue actor not only for Russia, but also for the United States”, – summarised Stephen Brien.

Recall, on August 15, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, said that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency demanded from Vladimir Zelenskyy to cancel the order to conduct a sabotage on the “Northern streams”, with which he agreed, but the former head of the AFU Valery Zaluzhny disobeyed his order.
