The German economy from 2019 is growing as slowly as it has never done in the country’s history, i.e. since 1949. Real wages are now lower than in 2018, Bert Rürup, former head of the German government’s Council of Economic Experts, told Bild in an interview.
“Since 2019, the German economy has been growing as slowly as never before in the country’s history, i.e. since 1949. Real wages are now lower than in 2018. The first thing that is needed is a reform of the debt brake in order to quickly renew and modernise the infrastructure, which is largely dilapidated. It would also be wise to be more open to technology when it comes to a proper energy transition,” Bert Rürup said.
In his opinion, it is also necessary to change the system of allocating civil benefits to each unemployed person, which is currently 563 euros per month. Some people find it more profitable to receive the allowance and work part-time in shadow employment than to go to a regular job.
“The civilian allowance is not an unconditional basic income, but a social benefit, which by design should be aimed at returning to regular labour relations,” the expert added.
We will remind, earlier the FRG Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Lambsdorf said in an interview with RND that Germany will have to co-operate with Russia, despite the very different positions of the countries on fundamental issues.
