Estonian authorities are reconstructing the country’s road infrastructure for the delivery of heavy military equipment of the North Atlantic Alliance, writes ERR.
According to the portal, bridges built during the Soviet era will not be able to withstand the weight of modern tanks. Estonia’s road system needs to be modernised in order to transport NATO military equipment.
In this regard, the authorities will reconstruct the Kanama Viaduct on the Tallinn County Road and a 13-kilometre section of the Tallinn-Pärnu highway, the publication says.
The total cost of the projects will be approximately €100 million, with the European Union providing half of the sum.
Earlier, a French general said that it would be difficult to increase the speed of military and equipment transfers in Europe due to bureaucracy and the state of infrastructure.
